Generous Spirit!

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me by your generous Spirit” (Psalm 51:12).

This Generous Spirit is the one which could change the depression, bitterness of soul and the sorrow. When I travel to foreign countries, I have seen many people suffering from the spirit called depression.

They lead a hopeless life having lost the cheer and joy in life. They never rise from the bed in time and they fail to carry out the morning duties. Disinterested in everything they keep on lazily lying down in their beds. When this spirit of depression attacks, certain people resort to consuming alcohol and they say that they do this for forgetting their worries. Some others resort to other drugs like cannabis.

This terrible spirit can be overcome only through prayer. Friends and doctors can contribute only a little. The psychiatrists may come and fleece one with exhorbitant fees but they cannot restore perfect health. This Generous Spirit alone is the substitute medicine given by God to cure depression. It will provide mental agility and happiness. It will give the feeling to do something good for the family.

Analyse the causes for the depression to attack and what sin and curse are there in the background as cause and then confess everything to God. If this is done, God will restore the Generous Spirit in you. When David fell into the terrible sin, it made him lose the Generous Spirit and removed the joy of Salvation also from him.

When David realised and confessed with tears to God, He gave the Generous Spirit back to him. When you shepherd the flock of God’ do it eagerly (I Peter 5:2). When you give to God, give it cheerfully (II Corinthians 9:7). He who shows mercy should show cheerfully (Romans 12:8).

On one side this depression occurs due to the spirit of the demon but on the other side it also occurs because of the lust for the flesh and illicit relationships. So, always be filled with the Holy Spirit throwing away the lust for the flesh. The flesh is weak and the Spirit indeed is willing. If you live in flesh, you will fall down entering into temptation. If you pray in Spirit you will watch and pray (Mark 14:38).

Dear children of God do not stop getting encouraged but encourage others too. Stop people from falling into depression and make them strong. Though many sacrifices have been made in Israel, one sacrifice is called as ‘freewill offering.’

To meditate: “Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, proclaim and announce the freewill offerings; for this you love, you children of Israel!” Says the Lord God” (Amos 4:5).
