Spirit of Father!

“….for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you” (Mathew 10:20).

These are the words of advice spoken by Jesus to His disciples with love. “But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” (Mathew 10:17-20).

The Disciples of Jesus were indeed illiterate and simpletons. They were by the seaside with their nets and fishes struggling for their livelihood. They were neither educated nor civilised. Generally, the Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the scribes who were with knowledge and wisdom were put up in the land of Judea. The disciples of Jesus can never be compared with them. But, even then, God told them “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves” (Mathew 10:16).

A high profile job fell vacant and many educated and influential individuals applied for it. A poor Christian was also one among the applicants. The interview was very tough and even those who had the higher qualification than this man, struggled. But he relied upon the verse vide Mathew 10:20 and prayed “Oh, Holy Spirit, I do not have sufficient knowledge. I do not know how I am going to answer. My eyes are upon you.” The Holy Spirit asked this man a question. “Son, when you climb the stairs and go to the upstairs, count the steps and tell me the number.” The man counted and knew that there were 22 steps.

The interview commenced and the first question put before him was “You came here climbing steps. Can you tell how many steps you had to climb?” Since the Holy Spirit stood in support of him, he immediately gave the right answer “22 steps”. No other question was put to him. He was at once selected and the high profile job was given to him. He thanked God with tears.

Dear children of God, rely upon the Holy Spirit. He not only knows the minds and hearts of men but also teaches you the way for you to proceed. He will guide you with His eyes. Never rely upon your self-knowledge but rely upon God’s Spirit one hundred per cent.

To meditate: “How precious also are your thoughts to me, O God!How great is the sum of them” (Psalm 139:17).
