"The rich rules over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7).

You should never become a slave to debts. Many people unknowingly get entangled with indebtedness. The system of buying in instalment attracts them and they are entrapped. Some people go for long-term bank loans for constructing a home with the thought that payment of instalments would replace the rent payable as they own the house. Today, to offer loans, the credit card has also been introduced.

In order to lead a luxurious life, many people resort to loans. Their weak explanation is that they have no other option but to take a loan to maintain their status. But no one realizes the huge quantum of interest they have to pay, the hard work they have to undergo and getting enslaved to debts. Why does a man enter into debt problem? He is unable to spend money with proper planning and determination. He is unable to differentiate between which one is essential? Which is not? Is it a luxury?

Though God had promised Isaac for Abraham, he was not patient enough and joined Hagar to give birth to Ishmael. Why should we resort to loans? It is because of the lack of faith, we give birth to sorrows like Ishmael. Promised Isaac was troubled by Ishmael and we read this in the 4th chapter of the book of Galatians. If one awaits for the promise to be fulfilled, Isaac the smile would be exhibited. The joy will also come with it.

What is the promise of God? “The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens……. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow” (Deuteronomy 28:12). So, dear children of God, believe Him. God will graciously make you prosperous so that you need not go for loans.

If you are stubborn in going for loans and keep on approaching the money lenders and the banks, God will let you down. Your debt burden will only increase and will not decrease. Eagerly expect God to open the windows of heaven after giving God the tithe under all circumstances. God will never lie and he is faithful. He will meet all your needs miraculously.

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob never received any loans. Their riches were such that the earth cannot bear it. Will not God guide you also highly, as He guided them? Does the bird of the sky go for loans? Is not the answer is no? God is feeding them wonderfully. If God so clothes the grass, He will do the same to you also. Exalt God and rely upon Him.

To meditate: “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law”(Romans 13:8).
