PRAY FOR THE SERVANTS!

“….praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18).

This is the fourth prayer point given to you by the Scripture. Yes, pray fervently so that God protects His servants. The situation of these servants is similar to that of the warriors positioned in the battlefield facing the onslaught of the enemy. They stand opposing the diseases, sickness, witchcraft and the sorcerers.

More than the fall of a believer, the fall of a servant of God is what satan prefers the most. When a servant of God who is powerfully shining in the ministry falls down, Satan is able to prevent lakhs of people getting nearer to Christ. He will ensure that souls are not saved and will roam about slandering the Name of God, citing the servant’s fall.

Some people will go on praising a servant of God injudiciously and pave the way for his downfall. But, once he falls, they will not hesitate to accuse and slander the same servant and simply move to the other extreme. But there will not be anyone to pray with tears for him. There is no prayer warrior to encourage and support the fallen servant. Paul the apostle wrote his prayer request this way. “…and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak” (Ephesians 6:19, 20).

Once, a missionary had to cross a forest alone during night hours on a terrible path. Since that route was surrounded by many dangers and prone to robber attacks, thirty believers kept praying fervently for the safety of the missionary. In the night, when he had to stay in the midst of the forest, he was neither troubled by an animal nor a robber. He continued his travel and reached his destination safely.

After some days, the missionary went for a hospital ministry and there a man told him, “Sir, I am a part of a burglary group. Some days ago, I saw you crossing a forest alone in the night and I intended to rob everything from you. But suddenly I found thirty persons accompanying you with drawn swords and being terribly frightened at that sight I ran away.” That was the night when thirty believers were praying and it is true that God had sent thirty angels to protect the missionary, on listening to the prayers.

A devotee by name D. L. Moody had some prayer warriors with him to pray for him earnestly. This helped him in doing the ministry powerfully and in gaining souls. There was a great revival wherever he went. The three hundred prayer groups which were in Wales were instrumental in bringing a great revival in that nation in 1905.

To meditate: “I will pray with the spirit and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding” (I Corinthians 14:15).
