“You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth” (Joshua 6:10).

If the palace and the walls of Jericho have to break and fall in pieces before you, what you have to do is to go around them This should be done once a day for the first six days and seven times on the seventh day. That will be the time for breaking the iron doors and bronze bolts. Do not have any doubt over the possibility of this to happen but yes, this is the power of the silence!

The children of Israel kept on murmuring while walking in the wilderness for forty years. This prevented God from doing great things.

Miriam did not realize that his brother Moses was a man of God and was accusing him always. She murmured saying “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also? How can he marry an Ethiopian woman?” This aroused the anger God and she turned leprous, as white as snow.

Oh, murmuring is how disgusting to God! Whatever you ask from God, do not ask with murmur but ask happily praising Him. Then, He will graciously and joyfully grant your requests.

In those days, in order to capture a city, the kings would use the huge elephants to thrash open the door of the entrance gateway. They will break the bronze doors with their spears. If the doors are made of wood they will resort to burning them. But what is the tool recommended by God to the children of Israel? Yes, it is silence.

On one side, Subhash Chandra Bose tried to secure Independence for India. He believed that Independence cannot be secured without war and shedding of blood and planned to wage a war against the British. But Gandhiji differed from him and he was involved in silent war using the tools like nonviolence and Satyagraha. The British were not afraid of the violent wars.

But the silence of Gandhiji broke their hearts. They quitted India giving Independence to the Indians. Do you know the verse which Gandhiji referred from the Scripture at this juncture? “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Mathew 5:5).

His question was “When the meek could inherit the earth, why can’t we inherit India?” Dear children of God, wait at the feet of God silently and prayerfully until you receive His mercy. Victory will be yours, definitely.

To meditate: “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1).
