could such a thing be!

“Now look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” (II Kings 7:19)

During the days of Eliza, Ben-Hadad the king of Syria brought his entire army and besieged Syria. This caused a big famine in Syria.

Since the famine was very severe, two women talked this way: “Give your son that we may eat him today and we will eat my son tomorrow” (II Kings 6:28). When the king heard the words of the woman he tore his clothes; and as he passed by on the wall, the people looked and there underneath he had sackcloth on his body.

Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria”. So, an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And Elisha said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it” (II Kings 7:2).

When the Word of God comes to you, accept it with faith without questioning or clarifying. It is possible for God. Nothing is impossible to him. The heaven and the earth may pass away but the Word of God will definitely fulfil. If you believe, God will exalt your faith. Otherwise, what happened to the officer may also happen to you.

Do you know what God did? “For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses—the noise of a great army; so they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us!” Therefore they arose and fled at twilight and left the camp intact—their tents, their horses, and their donkeys—and they fled for their lives” (II Kings 7:6, 7).

Then the people went out and plundered the tents of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.

Dear children of God, man may tell a lie; change his mind also. “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19) Dear children of God, God will definitely fulfil the word of prophecy or the promise He has made. So, be with faith.

To meditate: “There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses” (I Kings 8:56).
