Shield of Truth!

“He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler” (Psalms 91:4).

We saw the shield of faith; we also saw the shield which is of Salvation. We also meditated on the shield which helps. All these shields are the weapons of the mighty people. Along with these shields comes the shield of truth which finds a place in the 91st Psalm.
When you stand zealously for truth, God who is the truth will also stand zealously for you. The name of Jesus itself is the truth. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

The Bible has two important names. One is the ‘Holy Bible’ and the other is ‘True Bible.’ Every word of the Scripture is true. They are not only true but they possess Spirit and life also as they have been written by the Holy Spirit. The heaven and earth may pass away but the words in it will by no means pass. “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him” (II Samuel 22:31).

The people of the world may have several kinds of shields. The shield which Goliath held was a bronze one. Today, knowledge is the shield for many. Money, wealth and influence are also shields today. Ecclesiastes says “For wisdom is a defence as money is a defence, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it” (Ecclesiastes 7:12). But for us, the truth is the shield.

Some years ago, Asoka the emperor who ruled India wanted to highlight a thing by engraving it in golden letters. In a huge pillar at Sanchi, He engraved the words “சத்தியமேவ ஜெயதே”. Truth alone will provide the final triumph. Many false faiths may have risen as religions in the world. The correct meaning of the golden engraving is that “In the end, Jesus Christ who is truth will triumph.”

The Government of Tamil Nadu which wanted to translate this engraving of Asoka did not do that properly and their version was that “Truth alone will Triumph.” This translation did not properly reflect the stress, depth and the greatness found in the original words of Asoka. Anyhow, Jesus, the truth will be victorious always.

Many may try to flip your truthfulness and straightforwardness. But always remain truthful and lead a perfect life. Whatever be the legal tangles, the truth alone will triumph. When you stand for the truth you will win over everything. The defeat will encircle your enemies.

To meditate: “O Israel, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord;” (Psalms 115:9-10).
