“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (I John 4:8).
On this day, let your eyes look at the loving God. You will taste His love, rejoice in it and will move ahead towards that love. Jesus Christ was the one to determine what love is and how it should be. He is the one to love you with an everlasting love. He is the one to come in search of you with affection. It is His love which sustained, carried and rescued you thus far.
Jesus, “…. having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end” (John 13:1). The love of some people will sustain only for a limited period. In the beginning, they will pretend to be so sweet like honey but after some period of time, they will be extremely bitter. Those who poured love on you will spit bitterness and hatred on you. The love of man may decrease and vanish. But the love of God is stable. The above verse points out ‘loved them to the end.’ He will be with you always, to the very end of the age.”
He came in search of you even during the times when you were not looking for Him. It is, for this reason, He disowned the heaven and took the human form. He searched and found you walking on the stones and thorns. He said, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Look at the love of Christ! He was in the company of sinners and the tax collectors. He dined with them. He did not neglect the woman who was a sinner. He was merciful even on the harlot woman even though she had been caught red-handed. He gave her a new life. His heart had been filled with divine love. “Can a woman forget her nursing child and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15).
Further, His love looks like that of a father. “As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him” (Psalms 103:13). More than that, His love resembles that of a friend which is a searching one. “Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). Apart from saying this, He revealed His love by getting beaten and broken on the cross of Calvary.
Dear children of God, the love seeks love. Give your first and full love to God. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
To meditate: “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).
