Fear Not, You Men of Israel!

“Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I will help you,” says the Lord and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 41:14).

Here, God is giving you a wonderful promise. You may get angry when one calls you a worm. You may ask angrily “Do you know who I am? How dare you call me a worm?” But with all humility, God lovingly calls “Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel.”

Take, for example, a small insect or a worm. It will always be in fear that someone might trample or crush them at any moment. Even when just flipped, it may fall down and die. Even a mild blow will make the insect fly away. Dear children of God, you too may unnecessarily fear over many things. You may go in isolation every now and then. You may be worrying, “Oh, my life has become so bad.” Do not fear. God has chosen you.

God says, “But you, Israel, are my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham my friend” (Isaiah 41:8).  Here God looks at Jacob the small worm and says with all love that He has chosen him. Yes. “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” (I Corinthians 1:27). You may look worthless, but since you have been chosen by God, rejoice.

Secondly, God stands in support of you (Isaiah 41:14). Do not worry even if anyone boycotts you or keeps you aside. When God who created the sky and the earth stands in your support, there is no necessity for you to worry over these tiny issues.

The Psalmist says, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me” (Psalms 27:10). God says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

The Psalmist told God “But I am a worm and no man; a reproach of men and despised by the people” (Psalms 22:6). David’s this quality made God help him to gain victory after victory crushing the enemies. Today, God of David is in support of you. God will bless you with perfect victory in all to which you put your hand. You will achieve victory after victory.

To meditate: “Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and beat them small and make the hills like chaff” (Isaiah 41:15).
