Great Things!

“Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” (John 1:50).

“Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” (John 1:47). To convert Nathanael as His disciple, God described his character prophetically with these words. In response, Nathanael asked God how He knew him. Jesus replied, “Before Philip called you when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Generally, during morning meditations, the Israelites will sit under the fig tree grown at the back of their houses and meditate the Scripture and God. On hearing God’s answer, Nathanael surrendered before God. He said, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” God gives you also the same prophecy which He gave to Nathanael. It is “You will see greater things than these.” Yes. In the Name of God, you will see greater things. God will make it happen. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;

In the religion of Christianity, God has promised great things to His children. More specially, they will inherit the name of God. The Name of God has been written on your foreheads but you are not aware of it. “Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord and they shall be afraid of you” (Deuteronomy 28:10). “In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel” (Psalms 76:1).

The name ‘Indira Gandhi’ indicates ‘power.’ She guided India as its Prime Minister. The name ‘Hitler’ reflects dictatorship and he was a dictator of Germany who commenced the Second World War. The name Rockefeller sounds money and wealth. When we spell out certain names, their nature and characteristics appear before our imagination.

But the Name of God stands above all names, powers and authorities. Yes. Jesus Christ is the Almighty both in the heaven and the earth. You are His own people and He has given His Name to you and has made a covenant with you. “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth, and of those under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).

The Name of God is great not only in this life but also after it. He is great and He will do great things. So, rely upon Him. You will definitely see greater things than this.

To meditate: “I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God. And I will write on him my new name” (Revelation 3:12).
