“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)

The Spirit of God which interacts with man is called as the ‘Spirit of life.’ This spirit of life is the one which brought the heavenly life into the man thus enabling him to live on earth. It is with this Spirit of life, all the living creatures were created on earth. “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7).

The breath and the heartbeat which keep running within you were the ones coming from God. Even though six thousand years have gone by, the breath of life given by God to Adam still keeps on functioning within man. Thank God for this breath of life.

What does the Scripture say about Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ said, “I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). During the times of sickness, He is the one to protect you by providing comfort and health. It is He who mercifully extends the lifespan of one for who prayer is made at his deathbed.

God gives within you, the life which is the breath and the heartbeat. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus frees you from the law of sin and death. The Lord Jesus Christ came to the world for the people to have life more abundantly. Job, the devotee said, “You have granted me life and favour and your care has preserved my spirit” (Job 10:12).

Once, a devotee by name Smith Wigglesworth was brought for praying for a man who was in the deathbed. But the man was unconscious and was in a precarious condition. Though Smith Wigglesworth wished to take the Gospel into him and to strengthen his faith, it was not possible.

So, he went near the ear of the man and kept on saying ‘Jesus Christ’, ‘Jesus Christ.’ Then he said, “I command that life is restored.” As he went on saying this, slowly the life came into the man step by step. After some time, the man also prayed that life is created within him. Within a few seconds, he was able to get up and sit as the life had come into him abundantly.

In the 7th Chapter of the book of Romans, Paul had the law of Spirit on one side and on the other side, the law of sin functioned in his flesh. Though he wished to do good, it was not possible for him. He cried “O wretched man that I am!” Only then he understood that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus alone could free him.

To meditate:“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).
