“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways” (Psalm 128:1).

It is common to see Psalm no 128 being read in wedding ceremonies. When families shift to their newly built houses, the pastors will read this Psalm and bless the family. This Psalm happens to be a blessing which God provides graciously to a good family.

What is the identity for a good family? There, it is essential for the head of the family to be filled with love and reverence. When he fears the Lord and walks in His ways, it will increase the happiness of the family.

The head of the family should not only be a God fearing man but he should also be one who toils for the sake of the family. Today, many people do not wish to work hard but instead prefer the wife to carry the burden of hard working. They also wish the wife to bring money and other valuables from her father’s home.

If a small business is to be established or when a scooter or a car is to be purchased, they send the wife to her parents’ place with a demand to bring money. What a disgraceful act is this?

Every man who fears the Lord will also resolve to work hard for the welfare of his wife and children. If it is so, God is very much willing to exalt such persons by blessing all their ventures. When it is so, extracting money from the father-in-law and harassing such elderly persons in that way will never be a blessing.

Once a sister lamented, “My husband has no concern about the family. Whenever I try to talk to him, his immediate response will be asking me to fetch money from my father for him to start a business venture.”

Shedding tears, she further said, “He does not even care whether the children have taken their food or not and whether have sufficient clothing to wear. When will such responsibilities come to my husband?” It is nothing but the prayer of the wife which could turn an irresponsible husband into a responsible one. There is none, who could not be changed by God.

I always remember a testimony rendered by an excellent evangelist known to me. He said, “Some years ago when I was leading an irresponsible life, when I was a wicked person, my wife used to sit near my legs during midnights and pray “God, meet my husband.” That earnest prayer made God touch me and I was saved. He called me to His glorious ministry through an anointment of Holy Spirit. It was the prayer of my wife, which turned me who was like an animal into a man.” Dear children of God, make your family life a good one.

To meditate: “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table” (Psalm 128:3).
