“Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a well; his branches run over the wall” (Genesis 49:22).

When we go through the entire chapter number 49 in the book of Genesis, we can find Jacob blessing all his children. Of all those blessings, the blessing of Joseph was the greatest. They could touch the heart deeply.

Moreover, those blessings reach up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. “The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.” (Genesis 49:26).

Do you know the reason why Joseph was blessed so greatly? He was God-fearing and was happy to suffer for the sake of God. He was neglected by his own brothers. He faced so many reproaches and insults while sharing the dream given by God. In the end, he was sold as a slave in Egypt.

His tribulations did not stop there. He had to run from the home of Potiphar. He experienced unbearable torture in the prison. In all circumstances, we find Joseph to be a fruitful vine.

Not only that. Manasseh and Ephraim who were the sons of Joseph received the great grace of being valued as “Patriarchs”. The truthfulness in Joseph brought great honour to his children which no other grandson of Jacob could achieve. Yes. Joseph was a fruitful vine. Even in the dry days of struggle, he was a fruitful vine.

The brothers of Joseph had valued his price value as mere twenty silver coins. But God saw him to be great and precious. He was the second in command in Egypt. His brothers who had sold him, had to live under his care and control. The parents and brothers of Joseph bowed down and paid respects to him.

Since the blessings of Joseph were eternal ones, God helped in burying the bones of Joseph in Hebron located in Canaan instead of Egypt (Joshua 24:32). If you patiently tolerate tribulations, you will always receive the blessings of God in plenty. The blessing of God could reach up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.

Dear children of God, God of Joseph is your God. Will you inherit the sweet blessings which Joseph had? “The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in drought and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail” (Isaiah 58:11).

To meditate: “By the God of your father who will help you and by the Almighty who will bless you” (Genesis 49:25).
