GRACE WHICH FOLLOWS!

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” (Psalm 23:6).

The word “goodness” gives several meanings like ‘good part’ and ‘great blessing.’ The Good Shepherd likes to give all the goodness which are His blessings fully to you. “Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are pure in heart” (Psalm 73:1).

You will find God to be Good to the extent to which your heart is pure and receive the goodness from Him. The Scripture says: “For you meet him with the blessings of goodness; you set a crown of pure gold upon his head” (Psalm 21:3).

You may ask whether the goodness and mercy as proclaimed by David, followed him all the days of his life. Yes, even though there is an illusion that the evils of the world kept following him, it may be found that everything turned good for him in the end. The reason is “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God” (Romans 8:28).

King Saul, in order to hunt down David, kept following him. Absalom who was David’s own son was also on the go always, to kill his father. Shimei abused David by using filthy language against him. But in the end, all these things ended as good and blessings to him.

Whatever may follow, David learnt to praise God finding out the good things in them. “That I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13). “But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Psalm 34:10).

Dear children of God, He who loves you wholeheartedly will do everything for your benefit. He is the Lord who turns the bad things into good. For the whole of the year, He will make the grace follow you for your benefit. David rejoiced saying, “You crown the year with your goodness” (Psalm 65:11). On going to the church, there also he expected good things and said, “We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, of your holy temple” (Psalm 65:4). His unshakable faith was that the Lord will give what is good for him (Psalm 85:12).

Look! Some people are followed by sins and the curses of the forefathers. Evil spirits follow them. Sickness, poverty, sorcery and divination also follow them. But when you accept God as your shepherd, goodness and mercy will follow you like shadows. Good or bad, what follows you depends on what you follow. Dear children of God, follow God and His love of Calvary.

To Meditate: “Draw me away! We will run after you” (Song of Solomon 1:4).
