“And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming” (I John 2:28)

Paul the Apostle points out two things for which you have to abide in God. One is that you should not get ashamed and the other is that you should be bold.

A tiny ball of mud did not want to stay attached to a mountain and with a wish to lead an independent life, dislodged from the mountain and went to stay separately. Similarly, a leaf also with an intention to lead a life relying on its own strength got dislodged from a tree.

Once both the mud ball and the leaf met and made an agreement to live in support of each other. A little time later, a strong wind blew and there was a heavy downpour too. The mud ball got dissolved in the rainwater and the heavy wind tore the leaf into pieces. The situation will be the same for those who do not abide by the calling of God. Is it not?

Today, the youth boys and girls are of the view "Why should I stay in the control of my parents? I can move about independently. Why shouldn't I choose a life in accordance to my liking?" Such a living may provide an illusion as though it is a happy experience. But the ultimate end is that such people live in tears, their life becoming unstable and devoid of joy and peace. Just like this, when a wife or husband leaves the family fellowship and leads a separate life, resorts to separation, their life becomes sad and sorrowful.

Even sadder thing is the act of roaming about without abiding in God. That sorrow continues forever and ever. From whom could a man without Christ receive the Joy of Salvation? From where could he get peace of mind and rest? Other than in Him, where does the strong protection lie? Will, not He who is not abiding in God will be let down during the Coming of God?

That is why John the Apostle says “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming” (I John 2:28)

Those who abide in God will rejoice in Him with all boldness. But those who do not abide in Him shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. Dear children of God, abide in God. Continue to get strengthened in prayer and Scripture reading.

To meditate: “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).
