MERCY WHICH REMEMBERED US IN OUR LOWLY STATE!
“(Give thanks to the Lord) who remembered us in our lowly state, for His mercy endures forever” (Psalm 136:23).
God is one to remember us in our low state. When you remain wealthy, there will be many, willing to stay in contact with you. There will be many to sing your glory and receive something in return from you. But when you suffer in penury and when you suffer from hunger and starvation, no one will approach you or even think of you.
But God remembers you in your low state. Even when the whole world ignores you contemptuously, He seeks you with love. Has He not executed the covenant of grace with you? “For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you” (Isaiah 54:10).
“The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron” (Psalm 115:12). Dear children of God, He very well knows your problems, struggles and the paths of sorrow which you come across. Your days of sorrow, days of poverty and the days of struggles will definitely come to an end. With His grace, God will lift and exalt you opening the new gate.
That is why Moses prayed saying, “Make us glad according to the days in which you have afflicted us, the years in which we have seen evil. Oh, satisfy us early with your mercy that we may rejoice and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:15, 14).
How merciful God was in Daniel’s life and showered His love on him! How painful it would have been for Daniel to walk with his hands chained, for four hundred miles towards Babylon as a slave! He would have walked with hunger, thirst and sorrow.
But even in that low state of Daniel, God remembered him and exalted him as the authority for the whole of Babylon. God crowned him with greatness and glory. In Daniel 2:46, we read that the King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, prostrate before Daniel, and commanded that they should present an offering and incense. In Daniel 5:29, we read that Belshazzar gave the command and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck.
Dear children of God, He who exalted Daniel will also exalt and bless you. With His grace, God will definitely exalt you and glorify you in the midst of your people and relatives. You will be a blessing to others.
To meditate: “…though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich” (II Corinthians 8:9).
