"Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it" (I Corinthians 9:24).

The Christian life is similar to that of a race run on a track. There, the first comer will be the winner. But in this Christian race, not only the first comer but also all those who complete the race will receive prizes. Your run should be completed successfully. You should run in Jesus Christ in accordance with the Scripture.

In a wrestling competition, one who wrestles following the rules alone will win the crown. So, you may also run in a way which could enable you to receive the crown. "For many are called, but few are chosen" (Mathew 22:14). Will you dedicate yourself so that you find a place in the chosen group?

In the ancient world, when Noah was making the Ark, he was preaching for years together and God also was waiting with longsuffering. But in that Ark, only a few souls numbering eight were protected (I Peter 3:20). While turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, God willed to protect Lot and his family alone. During the destruction of Sodom, Lot, his wife and his two daughters were protected and all others were burnt to ashes.

Though more than six lakhs of people began their journey from Egypt towards Canaan, only two persons reached Canaan as per the promise. Likewise, when Gideon went for the war, people numbering thirty-two thousand accompanied him but only three hundred among them were chosen for their bravery.

People assembled to hear the sermon of Jesus Christ in multitude. But when He was taken to the Cross, only a few stood by His side. The Christians are very less in number in the Indian Nation. Still less are the saved among them. Amongst this small number, how many will be seen during the Coming of God? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

In the Christian life, many begin their run but money pulls down some of them. Some are fallen due to lusts. Power, fame and authority cause the fall of some. Paul the Apostle writes, "But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness" (I Timothy 6:11).

Dear children of God, God will help you to be successful. Victorious Christ is coming to assemble the winners of the race.

To meditate: "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14).
