MY PORTION!

"But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever" (Psalm 73:26).

The heart of God rejoices when we praise Him saying. “You are my portion, my greatness and my future.” Your heart overflows with happiness and glorifies God. Yes, God is indeed your portion.

Once, when a king was celebrating his birthday, he called his soldiers and allowed them to enter into the palace and pick whatever they want from there. On hearing this command, all the soldiers rushed into the palace immediately and took the costly items like pearls, diamonds, priceless wealth and golden jewellery to their homes. In a short span of time, the palace became empty and nothing was left behind.

But in the midst of the busy atmosphere that prevailed, one soldier was standing by the side of the king undeterred by what was happening around. The king asked him “Why haven’t you gone? Why are you standing by my side? Don’t you want to take anything from the palace?”

But that soldier humbly fell on his knees and told the king “King, all have run leaving you alone. But I do not want to go away from you. You are my portion and my inheritance. The responsibility of providing you security rests on my hands. The gold, silver and other costly items of the world are likely to disappear one day as time goes on. But the love I have over the king is imperishable. Is it not a compulsion for me to fulfill my responsibilities?

On hearing this, the heart of the king began to melt. With all love, the king embraced the soldier and elevated him as an important minister. You also tell the lover of the soul who is the King of kings “My God, you are my portion, you are my inheritance. David placed his entire love on God and said, "You are my portion, O Lord; I have said that I would keep your words" (Psalm 119:57).

All the saints in the Scripture chose God as their portion and glorious inheritance. The secret behind their joy is that God was their portion. Dear children of God, you are blessed if you had chosen God as your portion. As Mary chose that good part which could not be taken away from her, will you choose Christ as your portion.

To meditate: "The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, 'Therefore I hope in Him!" (Lamentations 3:24).
