"The gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" (Mathew 16:18).

If we look at the waves standing in the shore, we can see numerous big waves coming to the shore furiously. But, once on reaching the shore, they seem to be bound to some divine power and they go back to the sea. Though thousands of waves reach the shore, God has fixed a boundary for them and they do not cross over the same to prevail against men.

Similarly, satan with his evil powers brings tests, problems and struggles one after the other like waves. But since God is with His children, those efforts of satan become futile. Today, God holds your hand and promises that the gates of Hades shall not prevail against you.

God looked at Job and asked, "Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?" (Job 38:17). Even though your eyes of flesh had not seen the gates of death, God watches it and protects you from such powers of the gates of death.

The gates of death continued to torment David in his life. The lions, bears, the Goliaths and the battles kept on opposing him. David who shared his experience saying that there was just a step between him and death had placed his faith over God alone. With all happiness, he said, "Have mercy on me, O Lord! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, you who lift me up from the gates of death" (Psalm 9:13).

When Hezekiah, king of Judah became sick and was about to die, he experienced the gates of death and gates of the hade dashing against him like waves. At that time he sadly said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years" (Isaiah 38:10). But God sent the Isaiah Prophet and added fifteen years to his lifespan thus preventing the gates of hade from prevailing over him (Isaiah 38:5).

God has kept the gates of heaven and gates of Zion to defeat the powers of the hade. Jacob had the vision of the gates of heaven being kept open and the angels of God ascending to and descending from it through a ladder. Not only that. He also had the vision of God standing at the top of the ladder. Yes. He is the one to win over both the death and hade. He advocates and fights for your sake. The gates of hade will never prevail over you.

To meditate: "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.  I am He who lives and was dead and..... I have the keys of Hades and of Death" (Revelation 1:17, 18).
