“Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you” (Joshua 23:14).

The whole of the Scripture is filled with promises. The promises and the prophecies of God fulfilled in the past and are fulfilling in the present as well. Before shouldering the responsibilities of guiding the children of Israel, Joshua was assisting Moses in many aspects. Joshua stood as the witness for the words which God spoke to Moses and also to all the miracles which God performed through Moses.

God told Moses, “Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as my people and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.’ (Exodus 6:6-8).

Joshua made the Israelites understand how faithful God was in His promises and how He fulfilled each one of them. God delivered the children of Israel from the captivity, walked with them in the wilderness for forty years and gave them the land of Canaan as the inheritance.

Some promises which God gave regarding you and your family might have been fulfilled and some might not. Your life would look like a wilderness. Your heart might have gone weary with the feeling that God has forgotten you. Be strong and wait for God with faith. God will definitely fulfil His promise at the most appropriate time.

Say as the psalmist said, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God” (Psalm 42:5). Praise God for all the good things He has done for you in the past. Rejoice in Him with the strong belief that He will protect you also in the present life of wilderness.

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). Dear children of God, He is a faithful God who will never forsake you. He will definitely fulfil what He has said.

To meditate: “Even to your old age, I am He and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made and I will bear; even I will carry and will deliver you” (Isaiah 46:4).
