“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;” (Deuteronomy 7:9, 10).

Our God is faithful in covenants. Covenant is a resolution made between two persons. In the ancient days, people used to enter into covenants over many factors. It can even be an agreement between the leaders of two nations or between the heads of two different organizations.

Dr David Livingstone is a renowned Evangelist of Africa and he has recorded information regarding a covenant made with blood by the tribes of Africa. He himself has also entered into several covenants. It is the custom of the tribal leaders to make a cut in their wrists, mix the blood that comes out from the wound with other drinks and serve. Their belief is that the wound caused by this act will remain forever as a mark of the covenant. To protect this covenant of hope, they are prepared even to risk their lives.

In the covenant of the wedding, two persons initiate to build a family combining together after coming forward to sacrifice their rights. The sole aim of marriage is that they should be totally faithful to each other. Hosea 2:20 says, “I will betroth you to me in faithfulness and you shall know the Lord’. But many people fail to stay faithful to their covenants.

But when you look up to God, you can understand that He is fully faithful to the covenants He has made. Christ has made a covenant with you. That is a covenant made with the blood, shed by Jesus on the Cross. “Take, eat; this is my body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same manner, He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me” (I Corinthians 11:24, 25). This is a covenant made by Christ with your flesh and blood.

The blessing of this covenant is created in you both Spiritually and bodily. “Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). Dear children of God, God is faithful to fulfill every blessing which you inherit through the covenant made with His blood.

To meditate: “O Lord, you are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; you maintain my lot” (Psalm 16:5).
