“Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; you have given the commandment to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress” (Psalms 71:3).

Here David praises God saying, "Father, you are my rock, strong refuge, to which I may resort continually." Notice the word "continually'. It is not for a day or a week or a month or a year but a precious rock which could provide refuge eternally. Jesus Christ is that rock.

Some people prefer to stay in seashore when they are sick; some visit cold countries when affected by blood pressure; a few others visit places like Ooty being unable to bear the hot conditions during summer. But David's only choice was to go towards God who is the rock. How comforting it is to say “Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually!"

Numerous tribulations, sufferings and paths of tears were there in the life of David. He writes, “From the end of the earth I will cry to you when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalms 61:2).

The badgers which have their dwellings in the rocks used to run into the rocks and hide when they face dangers or when eagles and foxes come for hunting them. The rock which is the strong refuge stays as the strong refuge to them. Maybe, if the badgers hide in mud pits, the foxes and dogs might dig and feed them. But it is not possible to catch hold of a badger which hides in a rock. Yes. Rock is not only a place of safety, comfort and ideal for resting but also it is a peaceful place.

This world is full of struggles, treacheries, sorrows and the fits of the anger of the wicked but in the midst of all these factors, the feet of Christ which is the rock is there to provide blessing and rest. What a wonderful place it is!

The people of the world are unaware of the preciousness of the rock and hence take refuge in drug addictions; visit cinema halls to forget their worries. resort to gambling groups. Visiting such places will increase their plight and will never provide comfort and peace. But when you come to the strong refuge which is Christ the rock, where you can take refuge continually, He will comfort, embrace, exalt and bless you.

Dear children of God, when you come nearer to the rock, your Spiritual life undergoes a lift. God satisfies you with the honey from the rock (Psalms 81:16). He will quench your thirst with the water of the rock (Psalm 78:15, 16).

To meditate: “He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved” (Psalms 62:2).
