THREEFOLD CORD

“For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up” (Ecclesiastes 4:10).

Solomon the wise gives a wonderful explanation here over the importance of friendship. Being alone is dangerous and sorrowful. That is why the Scripture says, “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

It is common to see pastors rendering explanations about the threefold cord in the weddings. Husband, wife and God together form the threefold cord. Deep friendship should prevail between the husband and wife and their family life should be associated with Christ.

Through the process of layering, a new plant is created. Similar to this, when the husband and wife unite together and maintain a fellowship of love, a good family is established. Further, that plant should be attached with Christ who is the vine plant. If you abide in Him forever, you will yield fruits in plenty.

Dear children of God, create a prayer group with your friends who could pray together. Friends who could share the burden of one another and pray for each other are very essential. You may say that you do not have such friends. Firstly, you begin to pray earnestly for others. This will enable you to receive many friends to pray along with you.

Look, when Daniel faced problems, he prayed along with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. When they prayed, God revealed the secret to Daniel in a night vision (Daniel 2:18, 19). Daniel was in high status and when a person like him was in need of friends to share his burdens, is it not an essential thing for you also to have such friends?

If you have a question like "When God Himself is a friend for me and why should we seek worldly friends?" you will be the one to cheat yourself. Because the prayer of one accord is a powerful one. When one person is able to chase a thousand, two will do it for ten thousand. When you stand in one accord, your prayer will be heard. When two or three persons come together in one place, God will definitely come there. Dear children of God, identify the friends who would pray for you faithfully.

To meditate: “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24).
