HOW TO WALK?
“Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you” (Genesis 13:17).
A man’s characteristics could be defined by his gait. Some people's style of walking looks tiresome and weary. Some people walk in an active and brisk manner. Some walk like warriors and some like saints. Some walk with royal handsomeness and some walk like a hard-working labourer.
But, here we see about the walk of Abraham. Firstly, it was a walk of faith. God promised to give Abraham every place on which his feet trod. God said, "Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you" (Genesis 13:17). Hope and expectation were there in his walk. It had an assurance that all the places where his feet might tread will become his own. Dear children of God, are your walks, walks of hope? Is the hope that you will inherit the blessings of God is in you.
Further, the walk of Abraham was blameless. God said, "Walk before me and be blameless” (Genesis 17:1). The things which God expects from you are truth and blamelessness. Dear children of God, He wants you to be honest and truthful in the assignments given to you by Him. "Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations" (Genesis 6:9). So, God walked with him; dwelled with him; lived with him.
In the whole of the Scripture, you can read about the walks and paths of trod by several saints. But it is the walk of God which is the model for us. The Scripture says, "They have seen your procession, O God, the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary" (Psalm 68:24).
The walk of God was holy and pure. He walked ahead of the armies of Israel. The way He walked in the world as Immanuel shows the burden He had on the souls and the prayerful life He led. His walk in search of the lost sheep shows how compassionate He was. Not only that. His walk indicated that He was the one to do good and one to redeem.
You can read about the walks of Jesus Christ in the four Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. “For to this, you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps” (I Peter 2:21). Dear children of God, when you follow His footsteps you will become the winners.
To meditate: “These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being first fruits to God and to the Lamb” (Revelation 14:4).
