“What confidence is this in which you trust?” (Isaiah 36:4).

What is your belief about your future? What is your belief about the eternity? What is your belief when you live in this world? Think about these things for a while.

Some people keep their faith on money. Money is useful for everything. There are certain old Tamil sayings like “Money will pounce even till the hade”, “Even the corpse will open the mouth for money” and indeed they are true. But a man who places his faith on the money rather than keeping it on God, will be subjected to great suffering when the money betrays him.

A wealthy person proudly told that his faith was fully on money. In a huge communal clash he was caught by the opponent group and was taken captive. In order to escape from them, he took out lakhs of Rupees and valuable jewels from the cupboard and tried to persuade them.

But those people rejected his offer and were particular on the life of the man more than anything. He was tied to a car and dragged on the road. Then, he was made to hang on a tree upside down and was burnt from the bottom. Yes. The money on which he had kept his hope betrayed him.

Some people place their faith on their physical strength. Bruce Lee who was the master in arts like Karate and Kung fu had placed his entire hope on his body. After years of hard work, he had built his body so strong and happened to be the best in the field of Martial Arts.

But, Alas! An actress invited him for feast and the food placed before him had been poisoned. Without knowing the danger lying ahead, he ate and died instantaneously. With that, his hope had come to an end.

Some people place their faith on the positions they hold, relatives, doctors etc. One day or other when these factors betray, such people are put to task. “On which is your trust?” asks the Scripture. Yes. David did not place his trust on the world or man but placed on God saying “My hope is in you.” Those who place their trust on God are stable and nothing could make an impact on them.

In the Scripture, David repeatedly says, “O Lord my God, in you I put my trust.” (Psalm 7:1, 11:1, 25:2, 31:6, 55:23, 143:8). Dear children of God, you may also place your trust on God.

To meditate: “And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (I John 3:3).
