“ a guardian carries a nursing child” (Psalms 103:13).

God stays like a loving father to you. Since He is your Father always, He is called as “Everlasting Father” (Isaiah 9:6). ‘Everlasting Father’ means, a father for yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. He will be your Father forever and ever. What a great blessing it is to have Him as your Father!

Firstly, He is a Father who carries you (Numbers 11:12). The father of the world will carry his child on his shoulders. That child will hang its legs on his chest, and sit handsomely on his shoulders, by holding his hair firmly. The father will walk carry his child and also entertain it by playing. The child will travel with love as though it is on a procession sitting on an elephant. Just like this, God is not one to make you walk but one who carries you.

Secondly, the father counsels his children. The Scripture says, “ know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children” (1 Thessalonians 2:11). Yes. Our Heavenly Father provides you counselling through His servants and the Scripture. The first and foremost wish of God is your elevation and so, every counsel of His is sweet and precious.

Thirdly, a father corrects his children. It is quite natural that the children might be afflicted by foolishness but it is the responsibility of the father to correct their children even with a cane if need be. The Bible says, “For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights” (Proverbs 3:12).

When we feel that it is imminent to respect and obey the physical fathers of the world, how obedient we should be, towards Father of Spirit through whom we survive? The Scripture says, “For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness” (Hebrews 12:10).

Fourthly, a father is full of concern towards his children (Job 31:18). How concerned the worldly fathers are towards their children! They provide food, dress, and shelter and also meet all their other needs.

Similar to this your Heavenly Father is so concerned towards you. God who fed Elijah through the Ravens and the widow from Zarephath will also feed you. Dear children of God, how blessed it is to have God as your Eternal Father!

To meditate: “As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him” (Psalms 46: 2, 3).
