“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you” (John 14:27).
How sweet is the word "Peace." On hearing this word, the heart experiences comfort and joy. Jesus Christ said, "My peace, I give to you."
Once, certain missionaries guided the tribal people living in the hills towards God. Those people did not have a Bible and their language was also not strong enough for the Scripture to be translated into it. The missionaries were struggling to find appropriate words in the tribal language to replace the words 'love, joy and peace.'
One day a missionary, without being able to translate the word 'peace', was explaining it to a tribal man. His explanation was that when Jesus Christ comes into our heart we get cleared of all our worries and sorrows and what we experience then is what peace is.
After explaining that way, the missionary asked the tribal man whether there was any suitable word in the tribal language to mean 'peace'. The man replied that there was no apt word in his language to replace the word 'peace' but with the words available in his language it could be explained by saying "Jesus will make your heart find rest."
The missionary had a deep thought over this suggestion. Peace is nothing but 'enabling to find rest'. God provides peace to the turbulent heart and makes it find rest similar to how he brought great calmness rebuking the stormy sea. Thus he was convinced and translated that way.
Dear children of God, is your life gets dragged here and there by the waves and strong winds? Apart from giving peace to you, God will also make your heart find rest. Peace is one of the gifts which God gives you. The precious gift which God gives to His children is peace in the Spirit and soul.
At the beginning of every epistle, Paul the Apostle writes "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" and at the end of each of them he writes "Grace be with you". You should not be a receiver of peace alone but should be one to make peace in others.
“....peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Colossians 1:2). “...gospel of peace” (Ephesians 6:15). “.....the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3, Galatians 5:22). Dear children of God, let your life be with faith in Jesus Christ and made perfect in peace.
To meditate: “Pursue peace with all people and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
