“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse” (Malachi 3:10).

The tithe belongs to God. When you give it to God, He rejoices and you also get blessed. God blesses and helps you to inherit nine portions out of ten fully.

Once a wealthy man was crossing a forest and on his way, he met a poor man. On seeing the man's poor condition, he sympathised him, took out ten rupees from his purse, offered him nine rupees out of it and said, "Take this nine rupees and meet the needs of your family. Let me keep one rupee for me to meet the needs during the travel".

Saying this, the wealthy man continued to walk and within a short time great greediness came into the poor man and he decided to grab that one rupee also from the wealthy man. Accordingly, he went behind the wealthy man, hit him on his head with a log of wood and grabbed that one rupee also. Just imagine what the feeling of that wealthy man lying on the ground after being hit on the head might have been.

Just like this, God gives you nine out of ten portions graciously. He asks only one portion out of the ten for His ministry. When you plan to deceive even that small portion, how greatly will His ministry get affected!

Why should you give a tithe? The first reason is that when God has blessed you greatly, a part of the blessing has to be given back to Him as a token of gratitude. Some people will go for lease and get lands for cultivation, they will be able to pay the lease amount promptly without any default. They will avail a loan for interest and pay back the loan instalments with interest promptly but will hesitate when the turn comes for him to give to God.

Dear children of God, let the practice of giving a tithe to God be a joyous experience to you if you wish to be blessed immensely. Deceiving God by denying the tithe is nothing but self-deceiving.

Secondly, the giving of tithe paves the way for the global proclamation of the Gospel and also in the development of the churches. If it is true that you love the ministries and missionaries heartily, you cannot stay away from giving to God. When you wholeheartedly and enthusiastically give God, the ministries will grow and you also will be blessed.

Thirdly, giving a tithe to God indicates your obedience to the Word of God. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

To meditate: “....and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you” (Genesis 28:22).
