“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27).

How great it is to remain within the protection of the eternal God! How secure it is! The large wings of the eternal God provide the refuge to you.

Before breathing last, Moses brought all the children of Israel into the refuge of the eternal God and blessed them. Till that point of time, Moses had been providing them with all consolation and comfort. But now, the time had come for him to leave the world due to old age. The Israelites will not be receiving the affectionate embrace of Moses anymore.

Moses may leave you alone and go away but there is one who will never leave you. He is the eternal God. Who is that eternal God? The Psalmist says, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God” (Psalms 90:2).

Dear children of God, He will never cast out anyone who comes up to Him seeking refuge. Just come up to the eternal God whatever may your problem or your requirement be. He will provide you with refuge which will last forever. What is the refuge He provides you?

Firstly, He provides a refuge like that of a father. The child who is leaning on the breast of its father will never be afraid of anything. God descended into this world like a loving father. He carries you at all times on His shoulders over which He had already carried the cross. He has provided you with the refuge within His five wounds. Yes, the eternal God is your refuge.

Secondly, He provides you with a refuge like that of a mother. When it rains, the mother will protect her baby by covering it with her saree. When it comes to protecting the child, even life will not be more important to the mother. God says, “As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem” (Isaiah 66:13). The eternal God comforts you and provides you with the refuge like a mother. He is the Almighty God. Is it not?

Thirdly, God provides you with the refuge of love similar to that of a hen which protects its young ones under its wings. God says, “How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings.......” (Luke 13:34). Dear children of God, He ensures that even the shadow of the enemy does not fall on you and thus hides and protects you in the shadow of His wings.

To meditate:- “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself” (Exodus 19:4).
