“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37, 38).
This is a prayer request given by God to you. God shares His burden with you and expects you to pray for His prayer request. Yes. Labourers are needed for the harvest.
During the days of Jesus Christ, there were many Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes to do the ministry. But why God did not like to use them? Though they had dedicated themselves to God, excelled in the Scripture, they were reverent. They had not submitted themselves to act according to the will of God. They did not have divine love in them. They projected themselves as great advocating great philosophies which were of no use.
Not only that. Their concentration was not on the harvest but they were always involved in infighting among themselves and unwanted arguments. They did not have the burden over the souls getting destroyed.
Further, they did not wish to accept God and to obey His words. Their mind did not allow them to humble themselves and receive the Baptism as Christ did. God asked Isaiah, “Whom shall I send and who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8). Why should God sadly ask “Whom shall I send?" Though thousands of priests and prophets had been dedicated to doing God's ministry, they did not submit themselves fully to the ministry and were simply running behind worldly benefits. Thus God was unable to make use of them.
God sees a huge harvest in the nation. Though there are thousands of missionaries and churches, God's eyes are in search of only the servants suitable for the harvest. That day, God chose the disciples to stay with Him. He gave them the authority to cast out the unclean spirits and to heal all the sickness.
God sent the disciples saying, "But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the spirit of your Father who speaks in you" (Matthew 10:6, 19, 20). Dear children of God, today the total concentration of God is on you. Will you come?
To meditate: “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9).
